What is the Darkmoon Faire
The Faire is a monthly event in World of Warcraft. You can catch our Quick and Casual Guide to the Darkmoon Faire for more information on the different things you can do there every month. This post, however, is going to be looking at using it to prepare for Battle of Azeroth.
Darkmoon Faire will be active this week, and again the first week of August before the launch of BFA. But after the expansion launch, there will be no Faire in September and perhaps longer. This is to stop people abusing the quests and buffs from their Faire for an advantage in leveling their characters and reputations. But it also means for a few months at the start of BFA no one will have access to the Faire or anything that comes with it. So the time to prepare is upon us.
Collect For Sale
Ticket Bought Battle Pets
The Faire has a host of battle pets to collect. For your own collections or to sell for profit. Most of these are bought with Prize Tickets but some are not. I have included a list of the ones bought with tickets and fish below alongside their cost:

- DarkmoonHatchling: 90 Darkmoon Prize Tickets

Other Battle Pets
Syd The Squid can be won from the reward bag after defeating Christoph VonFeasel. There is a guide to defeating him here: Christoph VonFeasel
Darkmoon Eye can be won from the reward bag after defeating Jeremy Feasel. There is a guide to defeating him here: Jeremy Feasel
Moon moon is a potential drop from Moonfang the Den Mother. When she spawns a raid warning is issued to the whole island so all you have to do is be there and get to her on time to get in on the kill.
Darkmoon Rabbit is a potential drop from killing the Darkmoon Rabbit. This takes a big group; so your best chance of getting this is to check in Group Finder.
These are RNG based drops but you can do these on all your characters every day.
Darkmoon Daggermaw
These fish can be fished up anywhere around Darkmoon Island. You can resell these for-profit during DMF events, but you can also use them in other ways. You can use 100 of them to buy a treasure map from the Fishing Vendor, once per character. This Map will start a small quest around the island that will reward you with 100 Prize Tokens. These you can use on pets or Replica gear for reselling. There is a guide for this Here.
You can also use the fish in cooking recipes. Or stockpile them for people that may want them for cooking once the DMF is no longer active. You can also use 500 of these fish to buy a water mount that might be useful for you in BFA if you do not have an Aqua Strider.
Replica Gear
Remember to get as many of your
To maximize your tickets you can turn in the quest items as well for extra. Below there is a list of the items and how many tokens it will get you. You need to be level 15 at least to use these, and level 60 at least for the Soothsayer’s Runes one.
- Fallen Adventurer’s Journal: 5 Darkmoon Prize Tickets
- Banner of the Fallen: 5 Darkmoon Prize Tickets
- Captured Insignia: 5 Darkmoon Prize Tickets
- Imbued Crystal: 10 Darkmoon Prize Tickets
- Monstrous Egg: 10 Darkmoon Prize Tickets

Inky Black
I’m on a roleplay realm, so this might not be just as valuable to you. But nevertheless. A while back blizzard implemented the Inky Black Potion; these, when used, make everything in your in-game world darker as if it was a real night time. They are a favorite with roleplayers. They can be bought for 3g and usually, they can resell for 20-40g. But that is usually.
With no Faire for potentially several months, there could be a market there for roleplayers that run out of potions before the Faire returns. You can find these potion being sold by a little forsaken lady way out in the woods to the west of the Faire. I have included a map picture of the location on the right.
Collect For Keeps
Besides Gold making opportunities, you should take a look at any things you are missing from the Faire as well. As mentioned above the water mount from Daggermaw fish would be a useful edition for BFA.
There is also a few toys that can be bought for prize tokens as well that will add to your collection if you are seeking the new achievements in BFA. There is a music scroll for the WoD garrison Jukebox, but that also adds to the linked achievement. Remember the Ring of Broken Promises toy too!
Alongside the replica gear, there is also the soulbound set of Nobles Attire that can be bought during the Faire as well if you don’t already have it. You can also pick up four recipes for your inscriber as well which will help you with crafting and selling in BFA.
Conclusions and Bonus Tips
One of the most useful things that you can get from the Faire is going to be useful both for your own purposes going into BFA and for selling for profit. And that is the Darkmoon Firewater. This potion allows you to gather faster, which will be a big boon in the early days of the expansion. So my advice to you, friends is to spend this week and next month fishing up as many as you can.
Remember the carousel also gives you buffs to Rep gain, so if you are farming out any reputations this week is a good week to get it done with the use of that buff. You should also remember to pick up your Adventurer’s Guide from the NPC at the entrance to the Faire on all your alts. This way while you are working through BFA content you will be able to get the drops for the Faire and sell them or use them the next time the Faire is back in town.
All in all, I think a lot of these things will be useful to you going into BFA or useful in selling during and after the launch when the Faire is absent for a spell. What do you guys think? Let me know what you are prepping and if you are stockpiling any of these items!
