Shit I Should Care about is a series of guides that don’t really fit into our usual themes of roleplay and gold making. At least not directly. It mostly acts as a home to guides on annual events and all that comes with them. You can find more posts on this theme here at the Shit I Should Care About Series Index.
What is the Lunar Festival!

Lore of the Lunar Festival!
The Lunar Festival is a tradition that is thousands of years old on Azeroth heralding back to the first defeat of the Burning Legion. Making it older than some races we know and love today. It is said that while it was begun to celebrate the victory at the time it has grown to encompass a celebration of the ancient elder and wisdom from that time.
These days it is hosted by the druids of Nighthaven in Moonglade and all factions are welcome to attend and celebrate. During this time it is also known that ancient spirits appear all over Azeroth to offer their wisdom and
There is however a ulterior motive to the celebrations in Moonglade. The demigod Omen was defeated after having been driven insane by the Legion during their attack. He is however still a being of Elune and immortal. It is at this time of the year that he stirs within Lake Elune’ara. Azeroth’s heros are called to once more subdue him to slumber.

What To Do And How To Do It!
To get all these various boons and items you need Coins of Ancestry, obviously. You will mostly be getting these from the elders dotted all over Azeroth. THis is pretty similar to the midsummer fire collection and the Hallow’s End candy buckets. You speak to the elder and they will give you a Red Envelope which is taken from the real world chinese tradition. And within that envelope is your coins. Collect them up and you can buy the rewards. You can find a map with all the elders marked on it on the WoWhead guide to the event Here. You can also get a Handy notes Candy buckets addon to mark the location on your map in game.
There is also a simple introduction questline that rewards the Lantern toy, some stone and fireworks once you have defeated Omen. The stone can be used with the toy to make Elune Stones with create a spotlight or beam effect on a targeted player, if I recall correctly!
Lastly!
There is not too much profit from this event in terms of gold making. If you have the time and are doing the elder anyway then know that the pets are cageable and worth 20-50k each. So they are worth picking up. But for the most part, Lunar Festival is about the collectables and the experience.
Speaking of experiences there are two more you should check out during the Lunar Festival. On the date of the actual lunar New Year, celebrations occur in Stormwind, Thunder Bluff, Booty Bay and Moonglade centered around a fireworks display. And on the last day of the festival, one last firework show will be held in Moonglade. This last event will also spawn additional lanterns all around Lake Elune’ara in a mirror of the chinese Festival of Lanterns.
Will you be taking part in the Lunar Festival this year? And if so what do you love/hate about it?
